This Week in Centennial: News, Events and Neighborhood Updates for July 13–19

Centennial is buzzing with community meetings, live music, local generosity and plenty of summer activity. Here is what residents should know, where to gather and what may affect daily routines around town this week.

Local Government and Community Connection

Residents interested in what is happening behind the curtain of local government can follow the Centennial City Council Work Session, scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, at the Centennial Public Works Community Room, 7272 S. Eagle Street. Work sessions give council members time to study projects, policies and community priorities before formal votes are considered. Agendas, meeting information and future dates are available through the City’s online calendar. (centennialco.gov)

Centennial residents can also apply for Centennial 101, a free seven-week citizens academy offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the City operates, how tax dollars are used and how residents can become more involved. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, and only 30 participants will be selected. Classes begin September 3 and continue Thursday evenings through October 15. (centennialco.gov)

Muffins With a Mission

A sweet purchase can do a little extra good on Tuesday, July 14. During the My Favorite Muffin Community Fundraiser, the Centennial shop will donate one dozen mini muffins to Hope Starts Here Food Bank for every dozen jumbo muffins purchased.

The fundraiser is taking place at 8791 E. Dry Creek Road. It is a simple opportunity to support a local business while helping provide food to families in the surrounding community. Muffins helping muffins help neighbors? That is a delicious little circle. (centennialco.gov)

Free Live Music This Weekend

South Suburban’s popular Music on the Patio series continues this week with free performances and summer patio dining.

The Outliers will perform Friday, July 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the South Suburban Golf Course Bar & Grill. The Panhandlers will take the patio stage Sunday, July 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is a good idea. (ssprd.org)

Families can also explore the full Arapahoe Libraries events calendar for storytimes, summer reading activities, creative programs and other free events happening at Centennial-area libraries. (Arapahoe Libraries)

Arapahoe Road Construction Continues

Drivers near East Arapahoe Road and South Revere Parkway should continue allowing extra travel time. Construction on the Lone Tree Creek Trail underpass has shifted traffic lanes south, restricted turning movements and closed portions of the north sidewalk and nearby crosswalks.

During weekday work hours, drivers may encounter single-lane closures between South Peoria Street and South Potomac Street. Left turns at Arapahoe Road and Revere Parkway remain restricted, and the City recommends using Peoria or Potomac as alternate north-south routes. Residents can review maps and current impacts on the City’s Arapahoe Road construction update. (centennialco.gov)

Summer Safety Around the Neighborhood

Arapahoe County remains under a Stage 2 Burn Ban, effective June 30. Open burning is prohibited, and residents should carefully review restrictions before using outdoor flames or heat-producing equipment. (arapahoeco.gov)

Mosquito season is also in full wing-flapping mode. Centennial’s mosquito-control program monitors larval sites and surveillance traps throughout the summer. Residents can help by draining standing water, wearing light-colored protective clothing, using registered repellent and limiting exposure around dusk and dawn. Visit the City’s Mosquito Control page for additional guidance. (centennialco.gov)

From neighborhood involvement to patio music, Centennial offers plenty of ways to stay informed, enjoy the community and look out for one another this week.
