Centennial Cleaning Secrets: 7 Places in Your Home You’re Probably Forgetting to Clean |
Rubi of My Clean shares a simple reminder: the places we don’t see every day can quietly become some of the dustiest spots in the house. |

A home can look beautifully clean and still have a few secret dust conventions happening just out of sight. We wipe the counters. We vacuum the floors. We scrub the bathroom and tackle the kitchen. But some areas are surprisingly easy to forget, especially when life is moving quickly.
1. Under the BedIf you cannot see it, it is tempting to pretend it isn't there. Unfortunately, dust has no such agreement. Hair, pet fur, dust, and miscellaneous debris can accumulate surprisingly quickly beneath beds. A long vacuum attachment can make this job considerably easier without requiring a complete furniture-moving expedition.

Every time I do a deep clean it always comes back to the same places, top of the fridge, fan, and blinds. Glad to know I’m not alone.
Otis B.You’re definitely not alone! I always think I’m the only one who neglects those spots, but apparently it’s just how it goes. The top of the fridge especially, how does it get so dusty so fast?
You are definitely not alone, those forgotten spots seem to attract clutter no matter how often we clean! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Is it bad that I had to Google how to clean air vents? Turns out it’s not hard! Appreciate the reminder here.
I stopped stressing over trying to do everything at once and my house is a lot more manageable. Break it down, folks!

Window sills are my weak spot. Never think about them until it’s yellow with pollen. The struggle is real.
For those with pets, under the bed is honestly the first place to check. My two cats turn it into a fur storage unit.

I have allergies so cleaning the vents and blinds actually makes a big difference for me. Would recommend it for anyone sneezing a lot at home.
Top of cabinets? I didn’t even realize they get so gross until I stood on a chair one day. Extra reminder needed!
My ceiling fans are the worst! They always sneak up on me, especially in the spring.
I struggle with energy for cleaning after work. Breaking it up by area sounds less stressful, thanks for sharing Rubi’s idea.
I grew up washing the shower curtain but thought it was old-fashioned. Guess mom was on to something.
This is a solid reminder! My dog sheds year round and it’s wild how much collects behind the furniture.
Honestly I never look at the top of the fridge until I see dust in the kitchen light. Now I’m wondering what else I’ve missed.
I appreciate how Rubi doesn’t make it sound overwhelming. One or two forgotten spots at a time feels so much more doable.
Moving the couch is always full of surprises… found LEGOs, popcorn, and a missing sock last time. So relatable!
It’s amazing what turns up under the couch, lost treasures and all! We’re glad you could relate to the article.
Why is it so easy to ignore vents?? Every time I finally clean them, it’s like instant fresh air. Good tip about the brush attachment.
For real, blinds are impossible to keep dust-free. The Colorado sun is not forgiving!
The part about dust bunnies setting up local government in my house made me laugh. That’s honestly what my under-bed situation looks like right now.
It’s kind of scary how accurate this list is. I never even think about the shower curtain until it's a science experiment. Time to add that to my routine!
