Football season is officially back in Colorado, and the Denver Broncos have already given fans a little September drama.

After dropping their season opener, Denver returned home Sunday and earned its first victory of the 2026 season with a 20-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Empower Field at Mile High. The Broncos entered the fourth quarter trailing 13-6, then turned the game around with two touchdowns in the final period to improve to 1-1.

For Centennial football fans, there was plenty to like about the comeback.

Quarterback Bo Nix completed 22 of 31 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown, while one of Denver's newest offensive weapons, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, delivered a breakout performance with eight catches for 138 yards. Nate Adkins caught the game-tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and rookie running back Jonah Coleman put Denver ahead with a three-yard touchdown run with just over seven minutes remaining.

Perhaps more important than any individual statistic was the way the Broncos finished. Denver scored on its first three possessions of the second half after managing only three points before halftime. Head Coach Sean Payton acknowledged afterward that the offense needs to establish that urgency earlier in games, especially with the schedule about to get considerably tougher.

And tougher arrives quickly.

The Los Angeles Rams come to Denver this Sunday, September 27, for Sunday Night Football, with kickoff scheduled for 6:20 p.m. Mountain Time on NBC. It will be Denver's first home Sunday Night Football appearance since 2023 and the second of back-to-back home games before the Broncos begin a stretch that sends them on the road to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Los Angeles will arrive at 1-1 after an impressive 28-6 Monday night victory over the New York Giants. Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns, while Davante Adams caught eight passes for 195 yards and two scores. That creates an intriguing early-season matchup between a Denver defense that helped shut Jacksonville out in the fourth quarter and a Rams offense that looked explosive Monday night.

There will even be a little extra Mile High flair under the lights.

Denver is scheduled to wear its Midnight Navy alternate jerseys against Los Angeles, a look the Broncos have gone 2-0 in since introducing the current version of the uniform in 2024.

It is far too early in a 17-game season to draw sweeping conclusions from a 1-1 record. What September can begin to reveal, however, is how a team responds when things are not going according to plan. Against Jacksonville, Denver had to respond to a slow start, a halftime deficit and an offense that had yet to find its rhythm.

They did.

Now comes a nationally televised opportunity to see whether that fourth-quarter spark can carry into an entire game.

For Broncos fans across Centennial, Sunday evening has all the ingredients for a proper Colorado football night: prime time, a strong opponent, Mile High under the lights and another early look at what this year's Broncos might become.

Can we please fix whatever is going on with first-half playcalling? Every week starts so slow! More urgency from the jump please.

National TV, dark jerseys, home crowd… not a better way to make a statement if we pull it off. I’ll be watching!

Still not thrilled about the kicking game but the defense bailed us out. Gonna need all three phases Sunday night.

Thought Bo handled the pressure pretty well. He got hit a few times but stayed calm and kept us moving.

Absolutely, Bo’s composure, even under pressure, was key in helping the Broncos rally for that comeback win.

Rams offense scares me but our secondary looked stronger than I expected. Fingers crossed they hold up again.

It should be a great matchup, Denver’s defense blanked the Jaguars in the fourth quarter, so it’ll be interesting to see them take on a high-powered Rams offense.

Watching Payton on the sideline, you can tell he’s pushing for urgency. Hope the team gets the message for four quarters this week.

Wish the offense would mix more screen passes in. Waddle’s speed could break one wide open.

That was a fun comeback but I’m still not sold yet. Need to prove it against better teams before I get my hopes up.

Is it just me or did special teams look shaky before halftime? Can’t give up good field position against the Rams.

Saw the new uniforms in person last year and they look even better under the lights. Can’t wait for Sunday!

Defense really stepped up after halftime. Zero points for Jacksonville in the 4th is no joke. That’s what wins games.

Glad to see Adkins getting involved. Need more from the tight ends in the red zone, makes a difference down the stretch.

1-1’s not flashy but at least we showed some fight. Lots of season left so let’s see where this goes.

Stafford and Adams looked scary last week. If our defense can slow them down, I'll be really impressed. Go Broncos.

Can’t believe how fast things turned around in the 4th. Felt like the old Broncos for a minute! Just hope we don’t wait that long to start scoring next time.

Honestly surprised by Jaylen Waddle’s impact already. Eight catches? Looks like he fits in well. Rams game will be a big test though.

Great to see Bo Nix showing confidence out there. If he keeps up that accuracy, the offense could really click this year. Pumped for Sunday night!
