Centennial, Colorado, is entering the heart of July with the kind of momentum that is easy to miss when it arrives one update at a time. Taken together, however, this week’s local news tells a larger story: Centennial is strengthening its identity as a place where business, civic life, recreation and community connection can share the same map.
What’s New in Centennial?
Denver Summit FC recently celebrated the grand opening of its CommonSpirit Performance Center in Centennial. The 20,000-square-foot facility is now the professional soccer club’s permanent training home, with natural-grass fields, an artificial-turf pitch, advanced training spaces and athlete recovery amenities.
Beyond the excitement surrounding women’s professional soccer, the project brings economic activity, jobs and greater visibility to Centennial while creating another point of inspiration for young athletes throughout the community. It also places Centennial near the center of Colorado’s rapidly growing women’s sports landscape.
What’s Happening This Week?
Residents have several opportunities to step closer to local decision-making. District 1 Council Members Cindy Sandhu and Amy Tharp are hosting a District 1 community meeting on Monday, July 13, at the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations. A Centennial City Council Work Session follows Tuesday, July 14, at Centennial Public Works.
These meetings are a useful reminder that community connection does not always begin with joining a committee or launching a major initiative. Sometimes, it begins by showing up, listening and asking one thoughtful question.
Tuesday evening also offers a more flavorful doorway into community. Arapahoe Libraries is hosting Celebrate America Through Food from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Koelbel Library. The cooking demonstration is part of a larger year of programs recognizing America’s 250th anniversary, Colorado’s 150th anniversary and Arapahoe Libraries’ 60th anniversary. Registration is required.
What’s Next for Centennial?
Local entrepreneurs, students and curious residents can attend the free SPARK Centennial Connect & Collab event on July 21. The session will explore technology and data for business growth, including ways to use artificial intelligence tools and Arapahoe Libraries’ business resources. It will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Space by Arapahoe Libraries.
Residents who want an even deeper look behind the municipal curtain can apply for Centennial 101 by July 31. The free seven-week program explains how the City operates, how tax dollars are used and how residents can become more involved. Only 30 participants will be selected for the 2026 class.
For the summer calendar, save August 8 for the 20th annual Centennial Under the Stars at Centennial Center Park. Live music, food trucks and family activities will turn the park into one enormous neighborhood porch.
The thread connecting all these updates is simple: Centennial is not only a place to live. It is a place residents can help shape. This week, choose one meeting, program, event or conversation and step a little closer to the life of the city.

'Centennial is a place residents can help shape' — I want to believe that but zoning decisions around here make me wonder sometimes. Still, showing up to meetings is better than just complaining online I guess.
The SPARK event at The Space by Arapahoe Libraries is a hidden gem of a venue. Comfortable, well set up, easy parking. Whatever they're hosting there is worth checking out just for the space itself.
I feel like every July something new pops up in this city and I somehow miss half of it. Really appreciate having it all in one place like this. Now I just need to actually follow through and go.
The economic angle on the Denver Summit FC center is real. Jobs, visibility, foot traffic — this isn't just a sports story, it's an economic development story. Good move by the city.
Good to see the council work sessions listed here. Most people don't even know those are open to the public. Showing up even once changes how you see local government.
Honest question — is the Centennial 101 program open to renters or just homeowners? Would love to know more about how the city budget actually works but I've never seen that clarified anywhere.
Centennial Under the Stars is one of those events where you realize how good this community actually is. Bring a blanket, grab some food truck tacos, let the kids run around. It's the best summer night every year.
I'm a little surprised more people aren't talking about the CommonSpirit Performance Center. That kind of facility in our backyard puts Centennial on a completely different map for women's sports nationally.
My family came to the Koelbel Library last year for a different program and it was wonderful. Really glad they're doing more cultural food events. Will register as soon as I get home tonight.
Cindy Sandhu and Amy Tharp hosting at the YMCA Center of Generations is a smart venue choice. That building is really central for District 1 folks. Easy to get to after work.
The SPARK Connect and Collab event on the 21st caught my eye. Free, and they're covering AI tools for small businesses? I've been trying to figure out where to start with all that. Signing up.
These community meetings sound good on paper but I've gone to a couple and it always feels like the decisions are already made before residents walk in the door. Hope this one is different.
I applied for Centennial 101 last year and didn't get selected. Definitely applying again before July 31. Only 30 spots is rough but the program sounds worth it.
20,000 square feet for a women's pro soccer training facility is seriously impressive. Great to see that investment happening right here instead of somewhere else in the metro.
honestly didn't know Arapahoe Libraries did cooking demos. the Celebrate America Through Food event sounds really fun, might actually drag my husband to this one lol
I've been to Centennial Under the Stars the last three years and it just keeps getting better. August 8 is already on my calendar. The food trucks alone are worth showing up for.
The Denver Summit FC training center is such a big deal for Centennial. My daughter plays club soccer and she was absolutely thrilled when we drove past it last week. Hopefully it inspires more girls to stick with the sport!
