Centennial Weekly Pulse: Community Conversations, Library Connections and Colorado’s 150th Birthday |
From neighborhood meetings and practical City resources to welcoming library programs and a milestone Colorado celebration, here is what Centennial residents should know for the week of July 27, 2026. |

Know What’s NewCentennial begins the week with several opportunities for residents to participate in local conversations. The Centennial Council of Neighborhoods monthly meeting is open to the public on Monday, July 27, at Trails Recreation Center. It is a useful place to hear neighborhood concerns, learn what is happening across the city and better understand how local communities work together. Tuesday brings three additional ways to stay engaged. The Centennial Senior Commission meets at 1:30 p.m. at the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations, while District 4 Council Members host a community meeting at Trails Recreation Center. The Open Space Advisory Board meets at 6 p.m. at the Centennial Civic Center, offering residents a closer look at the parks, trails and natural spaces woven through daily life in Centennial. See What’s NextOn Wednesday, July 29, the City is hosting a free Residential Trash Container Workshop at The Space by Arapahoe Libraries. The workshop will explain Centennial’s storage requirements and give residents an opportunity to ask practical questions about the rules. On Thursday, District 2 Council Members Steve Carmine and Ashish Vaidya will host a District 2 community meeting at MorningStar Senior Living at Holly Park. Whether you have lived in Centennial for decades or are still learning how the City operates, these gatherings offer an accessible doorway into local government. Feel ConnectedSmoky Hill Library continues to create spaces for neighbors of different ages, backgrounds and interests. Monday includes toddler and family storytimes, followed by an English Conversation Circle from 6:30 to 8 p.m. On Thursday, July 30, Drum Together: An Outdoor Rhythm Experience begins at 6:30 p.m. Instruments are provided, and no previous musical experience is needed. The library’s French-English Welcoming and Belonging StoryWalk also remains available through August 14. Families should also note that Arapahoe Libraries’ 2026 Summer Reading program ends Friday, July 31. There is still time to visit a library, complete a final activity or simply find one more story to carry into August.

Is there a way to suggest topics for council meetings ahead of time or do you just bring them up in person?
Some great events for all ages. Appreciate the city making an effort to include everyone.
I wish we could have community meetings in more outdoor spaces during summer. Indoors isn’t as fun!
Does the Open Space meeting let people give input on dog park improvements? Would love to suggest more benches.
Love seeing updates on so many different neighborhood councils. There’s no excuse not to get involved!
Highlands Ranch celebration sounds like a great place to meet neighbors you’d never otherwise see.
Would love to see more focus on Spanish language programs too, especially at the library.
Awesome that the YMCA hosts the Senior Commission. That building is one of our city’s hidden gems.
Excited to try the Drum Together event. Always wanted to join something musical without having to audition.
This is super helpful. With so much going on, it’s good to know where to start if you’re new to the area.
Never thought trash bins would get their own workshop, but if it clears up confusion, I’m here for it!
Open Space Board is a great way to learn what’s new in the parks. I go just to hear about upcoming projects.
Looking forward to the cake at the Capitol! Last year was super fun for my whole family.
I hope they record the council meetings. Sometimes it’s hard to make it in person.
Feels like every week there's another celebration! Centennial definitely isn’t boring.
The Rec Center storytimes are a lifesaver for parents, thanks for the reminder!
Jenna K.Totally agree, Jenna. My kids love them and it’s a nice break for me too. The librarians are always so patient and fun.
Anyone bring toddlers to the storytimes? Is there parking close by?
Glad the city keeps asking for resident feedback. Not every town cares what regular folks think.
I like how the article says you don’t have to do everything. It’s reassuring!
The newsletter forgot to mention any virtual ways to join. Would love to see hybrid options for meetings.
I’d love to see more cultural events beyond just English and French. Centennial’s getting more diverse every year.
Outdoor music at Highlands Ranch sounds perfect for a summer evening! Might check that out.
Thankful for reminders about the events—life gets busy and it’s easy to miss what’s happening.
Does anyone have tips on getting a question onto the Council of Neighborhoods’ agenda?
Is anyone else bummed that the Summer Reading program ends so soon? Wish it went all August!
These updates make me wish I had more free time. Looks like a busy week for Centennial!
I moved here last year and these open meetings really help me learn the ropes.
The ‘one thing that helps you feel connected’ advice is wise. Sometimes just one event can make a difference.
Always nice to see local businesses at events like the Colorado 150 party. More market stalls, please!
Glad to see focus on both young families and seniors. A true community looks after everyone.
Kind of wish the meetings had childcare options. It’s always tough for parents to attend in person.
Is parking an issue at the Civic Center for the Open Space meeting?
The library’s inclusive programs make a big difference for newcomers adjusting to the city.
Hats off to the volunteers that make these events run. Centennial is better for it.
Appreciate how easy it is to just drop in on these sessions. Makes getting involved way less intimidating.
Pam C.Same! I went to a meeting last month on a whim and people were friendlier than I expected. No pressure to say anything unless you want to.
A birthday cake at the State Capitol! My kids would love that. We'll definitely check it out.
It gets overwhelming keeping track of all the city events. Maybe a monthly digest would help?
As a senior, I appreciate seeing the Senior Commission mentioned. If anyone wants to join, they’re always seeking input.
Does the Residential Trash Workshop address recycling and composting too? We need more guidance there!
Always looking for ways for my kids to practice French. Thanks for sharing about StoryWalk!
Very glad to see a continued emphasis on parks and nature. Don't let development squeeze out green space!
More free events at the library, please! It’s the highlight of my family’s routine.
District 2 folks, if you haven’t met Steve Carmine, he’s actually very approachable. Bring your questions!
It’s impressive how much the city manages to pack into a single week. Never realized how much was happening around here.
Does the Colorado Day event at Highlands Ranch have food trucks or just cake? Kids are already asking about lunch!
Colorado turning 150! That’s something worth a celebration. Didn’t know there would be two big parties.
Glad to see the Senior Commission is meeting again. My mom enjoyed their last session. Thanks for posting!
Miranda O.That’s wonderful! My neighbor goes too and always brings back helpful info. Glad the sessions are starting up again.
The morning community meetings are rough for us working folk. Wish some of these gatherings were online too.
Love the focus on welcoming everyone, especially with the English Conversation Circle!
It’s so easy to feel disconnected with busy schedules. These events help me remember why I like living in Centennial.
Can anyone go to the City Council District meetings, or do you have to live in that district?
I wish I’d heard about the Council of Neighborhoods sooner. I’ve got a streetlight complaint that’s gone unsolved for months!
Appreciate how the library always finds ways to bring all ages together. Drum Circle sounds neat for my tween!
The Open Space Board needs younger voices too! Any teens or college students going to attend?
Trails Recreation Center is such a central place for stuff—makes getting involved way simpler.
Anyone know if the Colorado Day events will have food trucks? Thinking about making a family outing out of it.
I always forget the summer reading challenge deadline! Kids, finish your books this week!
District meetings are where our real questions get answered. Grateful to see so many on the calendar this month.
The residential trash rules trip me up all the time. Glad there’s a class on it—better late than never!
The French-English StoryWalk is such an inventive way to encourage reading and cultural exchange. We’ve done it twice already!
Love that they’re hosting a Drum Together event! I can’t play a thing but I’ll go for the fun.
I think the city tries too hard to pack everything into one week. Maybe these events could be spread out a bit more?
Wish there were more options for working people. Most of these are during work hours.
We appreciate your feedback and understand the challenge, many meetings are scheduled during the day, but some evening options, like the Open Space Advisory Board at 6 p.m., are available, and we’ll continue to encourage more after-hours gatherings.
Victor N.Good point, Victor. I’ve had to miss a lot because of work. Maybe they’ll consider evening or weekend options if more people ask.
French-English StoryWalk is such a unique idea! My daughter loves looking for the next page on the path.
Thank you for sharing, it's wonderful to know your daughter enjoys the StoryWalk! The library team works hard to create engaging and inclusive experiences like this for families throughout the summer.
I’ll be at the District 4 meeting. Hope someone brings up all those construction delays on Arapahoe, so frustrating lately.
Nice to see the Senior Commission gets a spotlight. My mom’s part of that group and really feels heard there.
Anyone know if the trails rec center is accessible for folks in wheelchairs? Thinking about going to the council meeting but not sure.
Love that there’s so much variety, music, books, city updates, birthday celebrations. Hard to pick just one thing to check out!
Never heard of MorningStar before. That’s a really nice location for a community meeting. Good spot for District 2!
The storytimes at Smoky Hill Library are a lifesaver during the summer for kids. Thank you for keeping it going!
Just a reminder that the summer reading program ends soon. Perfect excuse to check out new books with the kids!
The council meetings are always informative but wish there was more time for public comments.
Jackson T.Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I wish they’d let folks submit questions ahead of time if they run out of time in person.
I hadn’t heard about the Trash Container Workshop before—such a practical idea! Those rules can be confusing for newcomers like me.
Looking forward to celebrating Colorado Day with my family. Love seeing the community come together for our state’s birthday!
Jenica D.Same here! My kids are already asking what the parade will be like. It’s nice to show some Colorado pride together.
Really glad to see the Open Space Advisory Board meeting is open to the public. Our parks are such a big part of life here and it's good to know neighbors can have a say.
Is there somewhere to see what will be on the agenda for the Open Space Advisory Board? Would like to know if they’ll talk about the dog park.
Thank you for your interest! The agenda for the Open Space Advisory Board is usually posted a few days ahead of the meeting on the City’s website in the Events directory, so you can check there to see if the dog park will be discussed.
Tom S.Usually there’s an agenda posted a few days before on the city website, but sometimes it’s not super detailed. I’d call the city clerk’s office to double-check about the dog park.
So glad Smoky Hill Library offers English Conversation Circle. My neighbor is new to the area and has been looking for something like this.
We're so happy to hear that! Smoky Hill Library’s English Conversation Circle is designed for neighbors just like your friend, and everyone is welcome to drop in.
I appreciate the roundup but wish more of these meetings were offered virtually. Hard to get there during the work week.
Thanks for the heads up on the trash container workshop. Never seem to get those storage rules right!
Drum Together at the library sounds fun! I might bring my kids to check that out. Love all the family activities happening lately.
Stephanie G.You should go! We did something similar last year and my kids still talk about it. They really do a great job making it welcoming.
