Centennial Fall Reset: The Cleaning Jobs Worth Tackling Before Cozy Season

Rubi of My Clean shares a practical way to give your home a fresh start as Colorado shifts from open-window weather to blankets, boots, and more time indoors.

There is something about fall that makes the house feel different.

Windows begin staying closed a little longer. Shoes start carrying in leaves and bits of the outdoors. Blankets reappear on couches. The kitchen starts seeing more soups, baking, and family meals. And suddenly, the spaces that felt perfectly fine all summer can use a little attention.

That does not mean your home needs an enormous top-to-bottom cleaning marathon.

Rubi and the team at My Clean believe seasonal cleaning works best when you focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference in how your home feels.

Here are five good places to start.

Give the Entryway a Fresh Start

Fall has a way of arriving through the front door.

Shoes, jackets, dog paws, leaves, and eventually snow all begin making their way inside, which means your entryway is about to work overtime.

Before that happens, clear out anything that accumulated during summer, wipe down doors and trim, clean the floor thoroughly, and make room for the things your household will actually use during cooler weather.

A clean entryway does more than look good. It makes the whole house feel a little more organized the moment you walk through the door.

Pay Attention to Baseboards and Lower Surfaces

Baseboards are one of those parts of a house that can quietly disappear from our cleaning radar.

Until the sunlight hits them just right.

Dust, pet hair, and everyday grime tend to settle along lower surfaces, especially around high-traffic areas. A seasonal wipe-down can make rooms feel noticeably fresher without changing anything else.

If you have pets, you may be surprised by just how much fur has been quietly conducting business down there.

Reset the Refrigerator

Fall is a wonderful time to take a fresh look inside the refrigerator before holiday cooking and entertaining begin.

Remove expired items, wipe shelves and drawers, clean spills that have been hiding behind containers, and reorganize the foods you use most.

This is one area where I can personally speak to the My Clean difference. During the deep clean that first turned me into a My Clean customer, Rubi's team cleaned and reorganized the inside of my refrigerator with a level of detail I simply was not expecting.

Sometimes it is the little things that make a service memorable.

Refresh the Places Where Everyone Gets Cozy

As temperatures drop, couches, chairs, throw pillows, and blankets suddenly become prime real estate again.

Before settling in for the season, vacuum upholstered furniture, get underneath cushions, wash washable throws, and check beneath furniture for the dust and pet hair that accumulated over the summer.

If Beau, Fido, Fluffy, or another four-legged member of the household has claimed a favorite spot, that area may deserve a little extra attention.

No judgment. They live there too.

Give the Kitchen Some Extra Love

Fall tends to bring people back into the kitchen.

More cooking means more opportunities for grease, crumbs, spills, and buildup around the stove, microwave, toaster, and other hardworking appliances.

Rather than waiting until holiday entertaining is around the corner, give those areas a reset now.

And remember one of Rubi's recent tips: a clean kitchen starts with a clean sponge. If yours smells, looks slimy, is falling apart, or has simply been working harder than it should, let it retire with dignity.

You Do Not Have to Do It All Yourself

Seasonal cleaning can quickly turn into a Saturday disappearing act.

You start with the refrigerator and suddenly find yourself three hours later holding an unidentified object you discovered beneath the couch and questioning every decision that brought you here.

That is where professional housekeeping can be particularly useful.

My Clean does not require every household to fit into the same cleaning package. Rubi works with customers to determine what actually needs attention.

Maybe you want the entire house refreshed.

Maybe you need the kitchen and bathrooms tackled.

Maybe you want someone to handle the deeper cleaning so you can maintain things afterward.

The point is not to clean everything simply because the calendar changed.

The goal is to make your home feel good for the season you are entering.

Because cozy season is considerably cozier when you are not staring at the baseboards.

Blanket season is my favorite, but now I know I should give the couch a little TLC too! Good reminder.

We're right there with you, there's nothing like getting cozy under a blanket, especially when the couch is freshly cleaned! A little attention now means an even cozier season ahead.

Sierra J.Totally! I always forget to vacuum under the cushions. It makes curling up feel extra nice when it’s clean.

Not sure I’d ever want to pay for something I can technically do myself, but my wife disagrees. Maybe it’s worth it for sanity’s sake.

Just did a fridge clear out yesterday and you’re right, it feels like such a win, even with little effort.

Does anyone have a trick for keeping dirt from getting tracked in? Entryway never stays clean at our place.

I don’t mind a bit of dust, but I will say nothing beats the feel of a freshly cleaned kitchen when it gets cold out.

Honestly, too busy for the whole house but you're right, focusing on a few spots feels more doable.

Funny timing, I JUST found a toy car and three socks under our sectional. Not sure who’s more to blame, kids or pets.

I like the idea of getting a professional service for the things I keep putting off, like the behind-the-fridge gunk.

My grandma always had us wash throw blankets before putting them out for fall. Still do it! Makes everything smell nice and fresh.

Every season I say I’ll go through the fridge and then I don’t. Maybe this will be the year? Thanks for the push.

I kinda dread holiday cleaning but maybe if I start with just the fridge I’ll get some momentum.

That’s a great approach, starting small can really help build momentum. Tackling just the fridge first can set the tone for a more manageable and less stressful holiday cleaning season.

I’m all in for the clean sponge tip. I always notice how fast mine gets gross once fall soup season starts.

Vacuuming under couch cushions is my least favorite job but I can’t argue, it’s necessary. The amount of crumbs is embarrassing after summer.

My kids and our lab absolutely destroy the entryway this time of year. Maybe I’ll set up a boot tray and a dog paw towel like Rubi suggests!

I always forget the baseboards until the sunlight catches the dust just right. It's so true! I love the idea of just picking a few spots for a fall reset.

So glad this resonated! Focusing on just a few key spots, like those dusty baseboards, can make your home feel refreshed without overwhelming you.
