Art does not have to live somewhere else. It can live right here in Centennial.

That is the spirit behind Blue Sky IDEA Art Studio & Gallery, the creation of artist, owner, and curator Patricia Aaron.

Aaron is an internationally recognized abstract artist whose work combines encaustic, mixed media, ink, and richly textured surfaces. Her artistic journey has taken her to residencies throughout the United States and around the world, including France, Iceland, Scotland, Hawaii, and Wyoming. Her work is also represented in museum, university, and corporate collections, including the Denver Art Museum, Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, Museum of Outdoor Arts, University of Denver, and collections overseas.

Yet one of the most interesting chapters of her story is unfolding right here in Centennial.

More Than a Gallery

Blue Sky IDEA is celebrating 25 years in business in its spacious Centennial location. The roughly 1,700-square-foot studio and gallery includes two gallery spaces, working studios, an art vault, and a loft, giving visitors the unusual opportunity not only to see completed artwork but also to experience some of the creative process behind it.

And this is not a gallery built around the idea that you need an art-history degree before walking through the door.

Blue Sky IDEA describes itself as a place designed to bring together artists, educators, collectors, design professionals, and members of the community. Its programming has included artist talks, creative meet-ups, open studios, workshops, live music, and curated pop-up exhibitions featuring Colorado artists as well as artists from across the country and internationally.

That community-building role is becoming even more visible. Blue Sky IDEA is a member of the City of Centennial's 2026 SPARK Centennial cohort, a six-month accelerator supporting local small businesses as they develop new ideas, collaborations, and customer experiences.

Travel, Translated Into Art

Aaron describes exploration and discovery as central inspirations in her work.

Places, cultures, landscapes, languages, and experiences gathered during her travels frequently reappear in unexpected ways through color, marks, layers, and encaustic wax. Rather than simply painting a recognizable destination, she translates the feeling and memory of a place into abstraction.

The result is art that invites you to stop, look again, and decide for yourself what you see.

And perhaps that same invitation describes Blue Sky IDEA itself.

It asks Centennial residents to reconsider what a neighborhood art space can be. Not simply somewhere to purchase a painting, but somewhere to encounter an idea, meet a working artist, attend an exhibition, discover another local creative, or simply spend a little time looking at something you have never seen before.

One of the pleasures of Centennial Spotlight is discovering businesses that make our community more interesting simply because they exist here.

Blue Sky IDEA is one of those places.

So the next time you think seeing contemporary art requires a drive downtown, look a little closer to home. There may be an entire world of color, texture, travel, and imagination waiting just off South Quebec Street.

Just a heads up, parking there can be kind of tight if it's busy. Try to go during less popular hours.

Much respect to local business sticking around so long. The pop-up shows sound intriguing, maybe good date night idea.

Not sure what an 'art vault' is. Anyone been there and can explain? I’m curious if that means storage or something more.
