October is arriving with Colorado’s familiar mix of golden trees, cooler mornings and afternoons that have not quite gotten the memo about fall. Around Centennial, the week of September 30 through October 6 brings opportunities to connect with neighbors, clear some old electronics out of the house, learn something useful and enjoy a little seasonal fun.

Share Your Heritage Around the Community Table

The week begins Wednesday, September 30 with Share Your Heritage: A Community Table at The Village Work, Wellness and Event Center, 7173 S. Havana Street.

The gathering brings together local families, businesses, entrepreneurs and community members for an evening centered on food, stories, culture and connection. It is a fitting way to close September by celebrating some of the backgrounds and experiences that make up Centennial. Centennial, CO

Making Medicare a Little Less Mysterious

The session covers Medicare Parts A, B, C and D, with additional attention to Part C. Written resources and guidance are included, and registration is required. Arapahoe Libraries

Finally, a Place for That Drawer of Mystery Electronics

Centennial’s Fall Electronics Recycling Event happens Saturday, October 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Centennial Civic Center, 13133 E. Arapahoe Road.

Residents can recycle many electronics, including computers, televisions, phones, cables, cameras, small appliances and other devices. In exchange for recycling services, the City asks participants to bring nonperishable food or a minimum $5 donation benefiting the Salvation Army Centennial Corps. The City expects high participation, so some waiting is likely. Residents should also erase personal data from devices before arriving. Centennial, CO

The family-friendly fundraiser includes games, art activities, food and a silent auction, with proceeds supporting the organization’s work with adults affected by cancer and trauma-related conditions. A Practical Tuesday to Close the Week

Job seekers can attend a free Interviewing workshop at the Centennial Workforce Center on Tuesday, October 6 from 2 to 4 p.m., covering interview preparation, difficult questions and different interview formats. Arapahoe/Douglas Works!

That evening, Centennial City Council is scheduled to hold a 7 p.m. public hearing concerning the proposed Elevation Volleyball annexation and related initial zoning. Residents who want to follow the proposal can review the City’s published legal notices and meeting materials. Centennial, CO

Didn’t know Koelbel Library did Medicare talks. Will tell my neighbors on the block, super helpful for seniors.

I hope they allow drop-offs even if you don’t have a donation. Some folks can’t afford even $5.

Sharon G.Last year they had pumpkin painting and a clay station for kids. My daughter loved it. I’m hoping they bring back the face painting too!

The public hearing on volleyball zoning sounds way more interesting than people think. Wish more folks paid attention to council stuff.

Lucas PorterTotally! I’ve gone to a few council meetings and there’s actually a lot at stake with zoning. It’s way more impactful than most people realize.

Never realized the city asks for a food donation with recycling. That’s a smart way to help others at the same time.

It's a thoughtful touch, the recycling event pairs decluttering with supporting the Salvation Army’s work, making it easy to give back while helping the environment.

I’ll take any excuse to clear out old electronics, but wish it didn’t have to be so early on a Saturday.
