Centennial Dog Fireworks Safety: 7 Ways to Keep Your Dog Calm This Fourth of July

How to Keep Your Dog Safe During Centennial’s Fourth of July Weekend: Beau’s Guide

Hello, friends. Beau here, service dog, household safety inspector, and firm believer that treats should arrive before the fireworks do.

Humans may enjoy a sky full of sparkles, but many dogs hear those explosions and immediately wonder whether the clouds have declared war. Your job is to help us feel safe before the first boom arrives.

Start by creating a quiet retreat with our bed, water, favorite blanket, and a safe enrichment toy. Close the curtains and add music, television, or white noise to soften the sounds outside. Please let us choose whether to hide, rest, or stay close to you. We do not need to “tough it out.”

Plan walks and bathroom breaks earlier in the day. Once the neighborhood becomes noisy, keep us securely leashed, even in a fenced yard. Check our identification tags and make sure our microchip information is current.

If guests are visiting, appoint someone to watch doors and gates. One startled dog plus one open door can become a very bad adventure.

Please leave us at home during fireworks displays and never leave us inside a parked vehicle. If your dog experiences serious noise anxiety, speak with your veterinarian before the holiday weekend.

Before celebrating, review Centennial’s current fireworks rules and safety information. For an expanded local guide covering fireworks, gatherings, identification, heat, and other holiday risks, visit Denver Animal Protection’s Seasonal Pet Safety Tips.

My final advice? Prepare early, keep the treats nearby, and make home the safest place in Centennial.

Denver Summit FC has cut the ribbon on a dedicated training campus that signals a serious, long-term bet on women's professional soccer in Colorado.

The CommonSpirit Performance Center, located in Centennial, opened its doors this week as the club's permanent home base — and it was built specifically with elite female athletes in mind.

The campus stretches across 20,000 square feet and features two natural grass fields, an agility zone, and an artificial turf pitch. Inside, athletes have access to a high-performance gym, cryotherapy, hydrotherapy pools, and a sauna.

CommonSpirit Health, the facility's naming partner, will also serve as the club's primary medical provider, embedding physicians and specialist care directly into the players' daily routines.

The project brought together a notable roster of design and construction firms, reflecting the scale of ambition behind it. Club ownership described the opening as a milestone not just for the franchise, but for women's sports more broadly — a chance to reset expectations around what professional female athletes deserve as a baseline, not a bonus.

Centennial Mayor Christine Sweetland framed the facility as an economic win for the city, pointing to job creation and the broader momentum building around women's sports as reasons the community should feel proud of hosting it.

The timing carries extra meaning: Denver Summit FC and CommonSpirit Health recently earned recognition at a national sports awards program for their partnership — a signal that what they're building is already being noticed well beyond Colorado's borders.

Centennial will say goodbye to 18.03 acres owned by Regis Jesuit High School as it transitions to the oversight of Arapahoe County through a rare legal process known as municipal disconnection.

The property will then be absorbed into Aurora through an annexation request, expanding the city's size by the same 18 acres.

While initially met with resistance from a Centennial city councilman, the details of the jurisdictional shift were ultimately resolved.

The disconnection agreement includes conditions to ensure the property's future use aligns with the interests of both Regis Jesuit and Centennial, benefiting both parties.

Mito Sushi in Centennial, Colorado has quietly earned a devoted following by keeping things simple: fresh fish, generous portions, and prices that don't punish you for ordering a second round. The menu spans everything from classic rolls and crispy deep-fried options to an extensive lineup of specialty creations — including the locally named Centennial Roll and the Colorado Roll — alongside a solid selection of nigiri and sashimi.

Lunch specials start at around thirteen dollars, making midday visits an easy habit to form. Regulars consistently point to the quality of the fish as the real draw, with the nigiri's fish-to-rice ratio earning particular praise.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff attentive, and the overall experience exactly what a neighborhood sushi spot should be.

Interesting Facts

Centennial, Colorado holds some genuinely surprising distinctions that even longtime residents may not realize:

  • A city born by ballot: Centennial was incorporated in February 2001 after a citizen-led vote, making it one of the largest cities in U.S. history to be incorporated all at once rather than growing gradually from a smaller municipality.
  •
  • Named for a state, not a century: The city's name honors Colorado's nickname — the Centennial State — which itself stems from Colorado achieving statehood in 1876, exactly one hundred years after American independence.
  •
  • Rapid population paradox: Despite being one of the newest large cities in the country, Centennial almost immediately ranked among Colorado's most populous cities, surpassing communities that had existed for well over a century.
  •
  • Home to a famous fictional address: The television drama Desperate Housewives used Centennial's real zip code in production paperwork, and the show's fictional suburb of Wisteria Lane drew partly on the area's planned-community aesthetic.
  •
  • Airport namesake connection: Denver International Airport was originally proposed to be built closer to Centennial, and the smaller Centennial Airport — one of the busiest general aviation airports in the United States — still serves the area today, handling more aircraft operations annually than many commercial airports.
